Yeaahhh. Bulan Ramadhan sebentar lagi.. Mudah-mudahan diberi umur untuk menikmati Bulan Ramadhan lagi. Aamiin. Nah, menjelang bulan ramadhan, biasanya suka mengucapkan selamat berbuka atau sahur atau mungkin ucapan lain yang berhubungan dengan bulan puasa buat teman atau mungkin pacar. Ini ungkapan bahasa inggris yang saya tahu.  check this out 

1. bulan puasa   : fast month

2. berbuka puasa   : break in fast

3. makan sahur   : fast supper

4. shalat tarawih   : fast recommendable pray

5 tadarus   : to read/ to recite Al-Qur'an together

6. malam lailatul qaddar   : night of revelation

7. Takbir   : Glorification to Allah

8. Dzikir   : Meditation glorify to Allah

9. zakat   : Tithe

10. zakat fitrah   : Compulsory after the end of fast month

Frindle = pen ?

Frindle

This book gets my interest.  I read this book because it talks about language (actually My major is English Department). I am interested of the idea of the story. How the words are created and how powerful language is. The writer (Andrew Clements) used the simple present tense of course because it is intended to children 8-12 y.o. That's why it easy to understand. 

Actually Frindle is the only one book of Andrew Clements' which I have read. I like the way he describes all acts directly or indirectly. Simple but interesting. Nick (the main act of this book) for example. First, directly, he describes Nick as a a boy who was not really smart, but then he makes us think that Nick was really clever and creative. 

Nick is really likes to liven things up at school. It makes him be judged as a troublemaker. When he got information of how words are created, he has got an inspiration - the best plan ever. "Who says a pen has to be called a pen? why not call it a frindle?" he said. First, the users of the word 'frindle' only Nick and his friends, but all of sudden, the school is in an uproar. The new word is spreading across the country. 'Frindle' doesn't belong to Nick anymore. I belongs to everyone.

After reading it, I was thinking. Clever is not the most important but we must be creative. Do not be too limiting a child's imagination because it will make the kids be uncreative. 

Try to read this book, and explore your imagination!

Sama seperti postingan sebelumnya materi ini saya dapatkan waktu saya SMA dari tempat les maupun dari “guru-guru” hidup saya. hehe

Once and Ever. Dua kata ini (Once and Ever) sesungguhnya memiliki arti yang sama secara umum yaitu pernah.

• Once

It is used in positive stc or to answer the question by using ever. Jadi, Once dipakai dalam bentuk kalimat yang positif atau untuk menjawab pertanyaan yang menggunakan kata ever. (see example number 1/ lihat contoh 1)

• Ever

It is used in negative (-), interogative (?), and positive (+) stc. Ever dapat digunakan dalam 3 bentuk kalimat, negatif, positif dan kalimat tanya.

The formal one of using Once and Ever is in the interogative stc with perfect tense. Jadi, penggunaan Once and Ever yang paling formal digunakan pada kalimat tanya dengan memakai perfect tense (have/has + PP).

Kurang lebih begini formulanya:

Have/ Has + S + ever + PP (Verb 3) + xyz?

e.g:             Q:             Have          you       ever                  been                 to Bali?

(contoh 1)   A:             Yes, I have once atau Yes, i have been to Bali.

No, I have never

Kalau informalnya memakai present tense

e.g:      Q:        Does she ever watch a film with him?

            A:        Yes, she does

                         No, she doesn’t

Selain berarti ‘pernah’, ever juga memiliki 2 arti lagi (sejauh pengetahuan saya yang masih pendek)

• .      Ever = biasanya

e.g:      She looks more beautiful than ever.

•        Ever = kadang-kadang

e.g:      They ever come to Jakarta
